Chehayla's Current Meds

These are what she starts the day out with

  • 2 enzymes w/ every meal & snack. About 10 a day. Always have to have a jar of baby bananas & enzymes w/ me cause she needs so many calories in the day we are always stoping for a Jr Bacon Cheese Burger or stacks of Peanut Butter Cups.
  • 2 ml Vitamax. Specialy formulated vitamins for Cf patients. Extreamly high concentrations of everything
  • 2,000 iu of Vitamin D. For her bones in the dark months, which is about 10 0f 12 this year. Cf patients have the potential to develop osteoperosis in thier teen years.
  • 1 cap of Miralax. A stool softener to prevent a blockage. I give it to her every other day or so.
  • Zantac 75, as needed. She was having burning in her throat & would wake up screaming. Hasn't happened since she took those for about 2 weeks.
  • Scandi Shake. Its a high calorie (440) powered mix that I mix w/ whole milk, whiping cream & choc. syrup. That adds up to about 600 calories and I offer her dognuts or something like that to go w/ it.

She has to do nebulizer treatments 2-3 xs a day, followed by 20min. of the vest.

  • Pulmazyme. This takes about 5 minutes and it breakes up the DNA of the white bood cells that are trying to protect her lungs for the ever present bacteria. This is so expensive ($2,200. per month)Luckly we are on a program that supplys it for free as long as we stay under $100,000. gross per year.

  • 7% hypertonic solution, 2x aday (usually I only get in one a day unless shes really sick) There has to be a time gap between this one and the pulmazyme. Its basically salt water to make her cough and move mucus out of her lungs. She is beging to hate this one. It takes about 20 min. to do and it burns her throught and nose. She takes water & coughing brakes but requires much bribing to finish.

  • 20 min a shaking on the Vest. It has to tubes on the sides and pushes air in  out very fast. This loosens up the mucus and she is suposed to spit it out. The force of the shaking actually pushes air out of her lungs so the nebulizer treatments can't be done at the same time. She dosnt mind the vest usually.

Antibiotics

  • Oral antibiotics are perscribed for exacerbations(when the bacteria in her lungs is taking over & causing excessive coughing)
  •  Since her last "clean out" she started taking azithromyacin M-W-F. This drug also has an antiimflamitory element to it so it helps her lungs in 2 ways. She will be taking this untill it dosnt work anymore.
